In recent decades, Japanese anime has sparked an interest in manga and light novels among American teens and young adults. Manga and light novels cover a wide range of genres and often bring a creative, unorthodox approach to story-telling.

These are manga and light novel series that I’ve reviewed. There aren’t many of them here right now, but there may be more later.

Aqua/Aria Series

About 300 years in the future, a young girl from Earth travels to a terraformed Mars to learn to become a gondolier. The series combines science fiction and fantasy, but mostly focuses on slice-of-life stories with an emphasis on enjoying the small pleasures in life and the magic in everyday life and nature. 2001-2008.

Gosick Manga and Light Novels

Victorique is a mysterious girl who spends all her time at the top of the library in an exclusive boarding school in a small European country before WWII. She solves mysteries with help from a Japanese student named Kujo.
