This list is about stories that are just really bizarre and surreal. It’s not that they’re all fantasy stories, it’s more that things happen in the stories that are just really strange, improbable, or inexplicable.

Actually, I debated about whether or not I should include fantasy and science fiction on this list since improbable happenings are naturally part of those genres, but I decided that the strangest book deserved a mention here. Science fiction stories are supposed to include inventions or events that can be explained by some scientific or pseudo-scientific means, and even the magic in fantasy stories tends to function by certain basic rules. Most books in those genres have a kind of logic to them. However, the entries here defy rational and even pseudo-rational explanations.

Note that the picture book section includes many books written by Robert Munsch because that is basically how every Robert Munsch story is.
